Julia Holter- Gold Dust Woman (Fleetwood Mac Cover)

This month MOJO have a free cover CD called ‘Rumours Revisited’, which is the entirety of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album recorded by new artists. It includes something which I expect will be rather beautiful, such as The Staves singing Songbird. But one you can hear without purchasing the album is this rather good version of Gold Dust Woman by Julia Holter. What a wonderful interpretation.

Anna Lena & the Orchids- A View of my Sanity

This is so beautiful I want to cry. The gorgeous new sounds of Anna Lena & the Orchids who I featured as a New Treat at the beginning of the year. The track’s melodies are rich and haunting and varied, in places Sharon Van Etten comparisons could be made. The production of the track is perfect and the choice of instrumentation adds to the haunting sounds of the track. Anna Lenas voice swoops beautifully above the building backing band and at the end you are left with something you just have to repeat.

This is by far the best track so far released by Anna Lena & the Orchids and  is the first single to be taken from the upcoming EP which will be released in February of next year.

Greta Isaac- It Comes and Goes

A lovely, lovely new track from Greta Isaac. This song has more layers of instrumentation than her previous recordings and more of an Americana country-swaying which is lovely and is showing she is separating herself from the mass of British folk singers who are all compared to Laura Marling. Above is a lovely photo which was taken of Greta performing at my Summer Series gigs this past August.
